Your baby probably did not spit up the whole feeding. I know it can look dramatic. Milk on the burp cloth. Milk on your shirt. Milk in the neck rolls. Milk somehow in places milk should not even be. But when you actually compare a typical baby spit-up to milliliters in a syringe, it is often a lot less milk than it looks like. This is why one spit-up by itself usually is not enough information to panic over. The bigger picture matters. Is baby comfortable? Are they feeding well overall? Are diapers on track? Is weight gain appropriate? Is the spit-up easy and effortless, or does baby seem distressed? That context matters way more than the puddle on your shirt. A few important safety notes: If your baby is spitting up much more than what I’m showing here, if it is ever green, bright yellow, red/bloody, or looks like coffee grounds, if baby seems like they are in pain, has trouble breathing, is not feeding well, is not gaining weight, or their belly feels hard/swollen to the touch, call your pediatrician or seek urgent medical care.
