NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Honors New York Police For 9-11 Response New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will attend at least eight events over the next week to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City, according to a schedule his office shared with NBC News. Those events include the official remembrance ceremony that will take place near the site in Lower Manhattan where the World Trade Center stood, the Fire Department of New York’s private ceremony Wednesday on Staten Island to honor victims, survivors and their families, and, later that same day, the New York Police Department’s official ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the attacks, at which Mamdani will speak. Mamdani will not be speaking at the FDNY event, Mamdani spokesperson Joe Calvello said, noting that no elected officials will be delivering remarks. “Mayor Mamdani is honored to join FDNY members and families at the World Trade Center Memorial Service on September 9, a private event dedicated to the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women who ran toward danger on our city’s darkest day,” Calvello said, adding that rather than deliver an address, Mamdani is “instead choosing to stand in solidarity with survivors and families to honor the heroes we lost and the heroes who remain.” Elected officials, including Mamdani, will not be addressing the official remembrance event in Lower Manhattan on Friday, as politicians have been barred from speaking at the site since 2012. #news #september11 #911 #neverforget
