This past Sunday, heaven touched down at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church as we celebrated the Sunday before the Elevation of the Holy Cross — a day our community will carry in our hearts for a long time. It was a profound honor for Fr. Fadi and for our entire St. George family, to concelebrate this Divine Liturgy alongside V. Rev. Fr. Hareth Ibrahim — parish priest of the Prophet Elias Church in Beit Mery, Lebanon, my own hometown parish, and the sacred church where I was baptized into Christ. Fr. Peter Aleria stood with us as well, adding to the grace of this extraordinary gathering. In a moving gesture of love and appreciation, Fr. Hareth was presented with a pectoral cross to honor his visit among us. Then came the most breathtaking moment: a solemn procession with the Holy Cross, as our choir’s voices rose like incense toward heaven, chanting “Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.” The faithful received red roses and basil, and were anointed with myrrh flowing from the Myrrh-Streaming Iveron Icon of the Theotokos — the miraculous “Hawaiian” Icon — a moment of pure grace that left hearts stirred and spirits renewed. And the celebration did not end there. We carried that joy straight into our Festival Feast of the Middle East 2026, where the community erupted in life — irresistible food, electrifying dabke dancing, the soul-stirring voice of singer Farah, and entertainment that kept the spirit of togetherness alive until the very end. Truly, how blessed — how unforgettable — it is to be together. #orthodoxy #elevationoftheholycross #faith #heavenonearth
