Unity unite recap in under 60 seconds with a special quote at the end. 🫶🙌 Unity re-announced Unity 7, and this time with no breaking changes. It was initially announced in 2024 as a new standalone game engine. But as this would be too much hassle for Unity developers to migrate and basically forced Unity to maintain two engines, they decided to change their scope and formulate Unity 6.8 as 7. 😅 However, this version does have game-changing improvements, changing the engine entirely over time. 🤯 The major update: CoreCLR Unity is finally moving from Mono to CoreCLR. For years, developers have been complaining about the constraints of Mono and the need for more modern C# features. So the move to CoreCLR is a huge one that will change a lot and make Unity faster in so many ways. I can't wait. There were also other improvements like we would expect.The DirectX Shader compiler is a big one too, allowing shaders to compile up to 90% faster. And entering play mode is going to be much faster, this is because CoreCLR doesn't require reloading all scripts, but only modified ones. This will make a big impact. However, I am a bit sceptical about this, as often you do need a full recompile just to make sure everything is right.. There are also changes in the live coding iterations. This can be neat, and I've seen it before, but in my personal experience, this doesn't work well in larger-scaled projects. However, it's quite insane that they made it work for runtime builds as well. 👏 Besides that, there were some things I don't like at all, like the Unity Fortnite stuff. I also don't know why you would want to be able to mirror Unity in Unreal... 🫥 Same for the Open Collaboration & AI Coding Support... to me, it feels more like a feature a corporate stakeholder with no technical capabilities would love... But maybe I'll be proven wrong. Let's see. 😄 Anyway, let me know your thoughts.
