When I was about to hit the market from my PhD, the academic market was bleak. Industry - particularly pharma and defense wanted PhDs regardless of what your research area was in. I got desperate and considered it. Ended up choosing more poverty and did a post doc that helped land a role, but everytime I am disgruntled I question how much the devil has to offer to sell my soul.

Somehow Both: They didn't kill the puppies, nor did they crush the orphans. They work in Public Health, and they're trying to stem a combo Parvo/Measles outbreak. Meanwhile Dept of Health passes a memorandum saying leaving corpses in the street is Parent's Rights. This is the Bad Place.
