The beaver had attacked other people the same day. Dramatic footage shows the moment a boy is set upon by a beaver in a clip that has since gone viral. The boy, thought to be eight-years-old, was with family members at Lake Henry in the Continental Soldiers Park complex in Mahwah, New Jersey, on May 3 when the aquatic-rodent attacked. Captain Michael Blondin, of the Mahwah Police Department, said the boy had been fishing on the lake’s shoreline when a beaver “exited the lake and charged him”. According to local media, the boy was bitten on his leg, before a family friend fought the animal off. The boy tried to flee the beaver, but tripped and it bit him on the upper thigh and continued to attack him before it was picked up and thrown into the water. The bitten boy has reportedly been hospitalised with the Mahwah Health Department saying that people the beaver has been in contact with have since tested positive for rabies. The department urged anyone who had contact with the beaver to get in touch as “you will need to be assessed by a doctor for medical treatment”. The beaver was captured by animal control. It is thought to have been involved in another attack that day. A commenter on a Facebook video of the incident suggested the family were “right at the beaver den”. Another said that the family having a “unleashed dog probably freaked put the beaver” who “probably had little babies”.
