The issue with a zombie apocalypse is the people as well, if you've got a working boat with supplies, you're a target, you'd probably get hunted down by groups of survivors

Boat might seem like a good idea. But consider this very possible situation: You out on the water. You are low on fuel, drinking water, and food. You got to make land to obtain these things, BUT when you look at the shore, there are hordes of zombies watching you, following your boat. And the tides/waves are pushing your boat toward shore.
