maybe it's because of the experiences I had with my two births, but I do not understand people being upset when they are able to get a baby out in like one push and no tearing. Like I wish it was that easy

I was 5 cm with a bulging bag and GBS positive, having extremely painful ctx. I asked for an epidural and the nurse was like, I cant admit you without cervical change. I lived 30 mins away and this was my 4th baby. I was PISSED. in an hour I was 6 cm. went thru it all and got my epidural placed but not started on the continuous med yet. my whole belly seized up and my water broke. fire. there was fire everywhere. the CRNA bolus dosed my epidural and I was numb almost instantly. which tanked my pressures and baby's heart rate. the nursery nurse was in my face yelling at me to push. I was like well I can't now. mind you they had my legs on the bed and everything. not even trying to help give me some leverage. thankfully doc came in and caught baby just in time. he was gonna come regardless I think. where I work, if you're that far (5 cm) and contracting like that, you can have the drugs without waiting. I was so mad. and thankfully that was my last baby.

Had a primip go from 2cm to 10cm in 4 hours and she REFUSED to push without an epidural. She sat still enough to have it placed and only then did she finally push and deliver 😂

I waited 32 hours to get an epidural with my first baby because I was adamant about having a "natural birth." I did not make that mistake with my second! As soon as I checked into the hospital, I was like, "Give me the epidural." It was such a chill birth; I loved it. With my third, I fully intended to get another epidural (I was screaming, "Give me an epidural!" as soon as I got there), but I literally gave birth 15 minutes after arriving at the hospital. I can't help but laugh at myself when I think about my first delivery, waiting 32 hours was absolutely crazy!

I didn’t want it for my first and it was fine. Went into my second birth too confident I didn’t need it…I needed it. Labor was so fast I couldn’t get it. Got induced for my third baby because my last labor was so fast and I wanted the epidural this time. Went from 3 cm to baby born in 44 mins. No epidural. I’m still pissed… lol

Can you talk about getting the epidural and then it not working? Happened to me twice!! why does this happen? Basically only worked for half my body and then after some time I think it stopped working completely and I was on pitocin and delivered in the worst pain of my life😅

they placed three for me and none of them worked, i could fully lift my legs and everything. i should’ve known something was going to go awry when he asked after the first placement if i had arthritis or a back injury or something (i dont that i know of ) i ended being happy to need a c section in the end cause the spinal was heavenly

I always tell people even if you plan for an epidural plan incase you don’t. It does help with trauma and that loss of control feeling if it doesn’t happen or happen the way you want.

My first epidural failed after labouring for like 14 hours 3 weeks ago. They were trying to convince me to not replace it but I was like; you need to replace it and you need to replace it now before this baby comes or I’m gonna die lol

has precipitous with both labor, and I still screamed and got the epidural while crowning for my first. it didn't kick in until the baby was out

In the public hospitals in my country, since the amount anesthesiologists is sooo low (we are going through a specialist crisis oops) women can’t get epidurals 😅

I'm sorry so many people fear childbirth without an epidural will be unbearable. Epidurals are great but just know you can get through labor and delivery without one if necessary. We used to have Lamaze training to be prepared and maybe that preparation would still be helpful as a back up to a planned epidural.

The last comment 😂 I have similar thoughts around natural induction methods… I was induced with ALL the drugs but my body said “nope”. Lights off and no noise are lovely but labour gonna labour - that’s how women give birth up trees during a flood while holding a toddler.
