@elisabethewriter: I have probably replaced half our library’s books at this point. There have been many times I’ve just let go and let him have the book - like one time he wanted to improve Eric Carle’s art because there was too much white space. But $16.99 every time we go to the library adds up when you go weekly like we do. Jax has learned the Dewey Decimal system and LOVES reading and looking up the books he’s excited about. I have desperately been trying to replace trigger words in my vovabulary - NO, DONT, CANT, STOP - but this one got past me. We’ll try again tomorrow.

When he’s older, If he hits someone who didn’t “limit trigger words” he could get prison time for assault. It’s literally that serious.

His trigger words being “no, don’t, stop, can’t” is extremely dangerous. Instead of avoiding them, you should be helping him work through the disregulation that comes with hearing them.

And eventually he'll be a grown man who can't accept the word 'no'. Actually horrifying to think about

As a woman with audhd, sometimes you just have to look at these videos and sigh because we all know that if this was a girl and not a boy, the comments and video would be so very different 🫩 you NEED to teach your son to listen to “no”, “don’t”, etc. If you don’t, he WILL grow up into a grown man who WILL hurt someone, and I’m not saying that to be mean, but I am saying this from experience. I knew a boy like that, who had audhd, who assaulted me because the people in his life never taught him boundaries and never taught him to listen to “no.” He WILL hurt someone, I’m not fucking kidding.

you cannot replace those trigger words. he needs to learn to accept and understand them or he’ll never be a functioning adult. he won’t be little forever and he’ll do a lot more damage when he’s older if he can’t hear the word no.

I used to be like this just not as bad most the time but it could be bad but i grew out of it mostly as long as you slowly get him used to saying dont and anything that could trigger him he will be able to deal with it oneday it might take awhile but he will

No is a normal word and he needs to respect it. I raised 3 autistic kids. It’s not easy but it’s MANDATORY if they are to function in society when they’re older.

AuDHD here. Help him learn to handle the disregulation that comes with "no" instead of just avoiding it. You are setting him up for failure.

do you not realize the implications of raising a boy who cannot take hearing “No, Don’t, Can’t, Stop”?? he isn’t going to be a young boy forever. For everyones safety and even his own, he NEEDS to learn what those words mean and to be okay with them being said. Avoiding them is egregious and setting him up for failure/a nightmare scenario.

Jump rope inside, putting holes through walls because he heard the word no, writing in library books repeatedly. Why he isn’t being given cia level psychological torture is beyond me. You can’t go “boys will be boys” at this level of behavior
