Yes and no depending on the commander. I was in a battalion where the XO and battalion commander ate captains and Lt's for breakfast. I was a Staff Sergeant and worked approximately 80 hours a week just to keep up with the demands. But I survived where many did not.

Been saying this, a 3 year Army enlisted will do it. Can be a Veteran at 21-22 with an associates anyway.

I think it depends on what you want. There are a lot of things that are involved. That is why you don’t see commissioned officers talking about it and doing videos. It is not for everyone. And that is okay. I wouldn’t say either option is better or worse. - VR, someone who is a commissioned officer of 11 years

Commissioned you get access to VA immediately, you make more money at O3 than a E9 with 20 years in the military, you get real leadership experience, and you leave college educated…

Commissioning is better. Way better. I went enlisted first. Then commissioned 6 years in, the job market was gone when I got out and when k finished school and commissioned. I was making 2-3 times the enlisted soldiers pay. Now way into the officer career and making 5 times what an enlisted guy, or retired enlisted guy would make. When I finish my career in the army ok won’t have to work. And will still make more than I do currently. And still have multiple job ops making 6 figures a year easy.

Just false, objectively. Everything you said, an officer can also do, with the added benefit of finishing your education at the front end of your military service. Employers are picking the commissioned officer right after they get out, rather than the enlisted service member who has a 4 year gap between service and finishing up their schooling

It depends on your goals and your background. Staying in isn't for everyone but commissioning can be very rewarding if you do it for the right reasons. Enlisting isn't necessarily better than commissioning though (I've been both and been a vet).

Odd take but I’m enlisted and have considered commissioning, still not off the table. However, I really like my enlisted job ( I’m in the Guard). I’ve seen many other passionate NCOs commission, regret it, and get out. That’s not true for everyone. Do what works for you. For me that’s showing up to drill and being an NCO for now 🤷♀️.

this is when you make your enlisted career as a foundation to do something else next, NOT the enlisted life. As enlisted, of course, you won't have to move as many times as officers do if you take that as a good thing.

Or… hear me out. You commission at 22 with a degree, SLDRP pays off your student loans, and you only do 6 years (the same as any other MOS that’s actually worth a damn in the civilian sector). And then you get out with another 4 years of education benefits, the same VA benefits, strategic leadership experience, and a top secret clearance while the enlisted guy is just finishing up college..

Not even right. I know sailors who have been in 10+ years and are married and aren’t even getting paid what an O-1 gets paid. Do one contract enlisted and then go O-1E
