@eastcoastfarrier: CHARLIE BROWN • PART 1 Well…that's a pony for you. 😂 Meet Charlie Brown, a super cute new client who decided to make sure our first appointment together wasn't TOO boring. A little jumping around doesn't make him a bad pony. He's actually a sweet little guy—and there's more going on here than you might notice at first glance. Charlie Brown has a stifle injury, so before getting too far into his trim, I walk him out and show you what I'm seeing in his movement and what a horse or pony with a stifle problem can look like. Then it's back to the feet. I'll take you through this trim the same way I approach any new horse: evaluate what's in front of me, look at hoof balance, growth and wear patterns, the hoof wall, sole and frog, and consider how the whole horse is moving before deciding what needs to change. You'll also catch me sharpening my hoof knife and explaining what I'm seeing as we work through Charlie Brown's first foot. When you're trimming a horse with an injury or physical limitation, sometimes the biggest part of the job isn't what you remove from the hoof. It's figuring out how to work WITH the horse in front of you.
