DULCIMERE :
I've watched this on television series called "TOUCH BY AN ANGEL" since 1994 and one of their series was this one that i will never forget. Unfortunately, in 2003 CBS cancelled it after a highly successful nine-season run.
The main reason why the series came to an end includes:
Declining Ratings: At its peak in the late 1990s, the show was a massive hit, drawing in over 28 million viewers weekly on Sunday nights. However, by its ninth season, viewership had significantly dropped as audience viewing habits shifted.
Natural Creative Conclusion: The series ran for 9 seasons and 211 episodes. By 2003, the creators felt the show had reached its natural storytelling end. In the emotional series finale, the main character, Monica (played by Roma Downey), completes her final assignment and receives a promotion to supervisor, bringing her character arc to a complete close.
Rising Production Costs: As a show stays on the air longer, the cost of production and contract salaries for the main cast (including Roma Downey and Della Reese) drastically increases, making it harder for the network to justify keeping it on the air amid falling ratings.
Interestingly, CBS actually cancelled the show during its very first season in 1994 due to low initial ratings. However, passionate fans staged a massive letter-writing campaign to save the show. The network listened, brought it back for a second season, moved it to a Sunday night slot, and it went on to become one of the biggest television hits of the 1990s.
