@diak17: 🚨 “BUT I WAS HERE FIRST!” 👀 Ever wonder why someone who came in AFTER you gets called back before you? Here’s what’s actually happening in the ER… It’s not always first come, first served. In the ER, patients are prioritized using something called the Emergency Severity Index, or ESI. This five-level triage system helps the care team determine how urgently someone needs to be seen and what resources they may require. Patients with more serious or potentially life-threatening conditions may be seen before patients who arrived earlier but are more stable. So if you’re waiting while someone who came in after you gets taken back… it may be because their symptoms require more immediate attention. 👩🏻‍⚕️ Even if you took an ambulance, there is a chance you will be triaged and end up in the waiting room.
