This changed nothing. You still need 18 cables for the apartment units. Also PON isn't anything new and is how fiber is fed to residential in this day and age

It’s still 18 fibers just one to each unit back to a common PON splitter. Doesn’t solve much if you issue is getting fiber to the actual unit

why would you use 18 media converters for this, a single l3 switch with the right rules would allow people fibre to work, and be cheaper than running a more complicated pon setup for only 18 units, with a router in each appartment having an SFP module.
