if that's a cruiser v8 ute , 4.5-liter 1VD-FTV V8 , VDJ79 series, could be the MAF air flow sensor in the air intake, if it's been wet it can do this as well. you use MAF cleaner spray and carefully wash off the sensor once you have removed it from the air tube, do not touch the sensor elements, don't use any other products on it to clean it . it will dry quickly after cleaning and you put it back in . this would be another good place to look. it has a crankshaft position sensor, A failing or dead crank sensor can cause the engine to crank indefinitely without firing, random stalling, or dropping the vehicle into a rough running state. some times they give you Diagnostic Codes:P0335 or P0339. but sometimes they don't. it would be a place to start looking. it might be the issue. might not.
