So the only logical answer would be to get a cleaner for Father’s Day as well 🤷‍♀️that’s the way I see it

Fathers day gift - hire someone to mow the lawn and clean up outside the house.

I feel like that’s something he could’ve paid for at any time of the year as he also should be cleaning the house not just you so why is that your gift? He’s assuming that the cleaning is solely your responsibility. It’s not a gift it’s an addition to the house. I think a Mother’s Day gift should be a gift that celebrates you as a mother and recognises the special work you’ve done to actually become and sustain being a mother. Him hiring a cleaner is his Father’s Day present too then because he benefited from that.

Hard one, because yay you don’t have to clean, but nay it’s everyone’s house to clean not just yours.

So that gift implies that cleaning is your job and your sole responsibility and therefore getting a cleaner is for you so you can have a break. I can somehow see what he was trying to achieve but what a piss poor execution.

A cleaner as PART of my mothers day gift (in addition to jewellery or a spa day or something)? I'd be happy. A cleaner being my ONLY gift? I'd be unhappy haha

Bring back daggy gifts only. Teapots, socks, handmade gifts. Birthdays can be the big gifts about the person - jewellery, personal hobbies etc

I would love that time with my family then spent cleaning. since my mum passed away I’ve realised materialistic things dnt actually matter. Time is more precious then a gift

yeah i’d hate that personally. Like other people have said, it implies he believes cleaning the house is your responsibility. My mum always asked for my brother and I to clean the house as her mother’s day present because it actually meant she could get a break (single mother). So it’d make me feel like a married single mother. My husband cleaned the house himself and brought me an amazing present.

I think perspective is key. a lot of comments say he befits to but I'm not sure it always about that. looking from the lense of that's a mental load and burden you carry, in his thought process I believe that the cleaner replaces and lifts something you carry and intention is part of the gift.

A better scenario would be for him to get you to leave the house for the day, pamper sesh etc no kids, no responsibility- while you’re out he and the kids clean the house themselves. Then you come back refreshed and surprised. I’m a bit believer that the gift needs to be thoughtful. Also I would love that as a gift but a bit more thought would be good 👍🏻

I guess when we feel loved we feel considered… do you feel his gift was considerate?? Did he consider you… did he think this would take a load off you, does he know you thrive in a clean home? I would not be asking the internet for what THEIR values are.. you need to ask yourself “do I feel seen and really thought of”

From someone that didn’t get anything my entire marriage and cleaned the house myself I’d say that’s the best gift ever.

It’s tricky, because if you normally do it, he gave you time. Which is valuable. I get what you mean though.

So I’m hearing he got himself a gift too. It’s not just your responsibility. So yeah. Not a gift for you.

Mmm I’m torn on this gift - like yes I would LOVE a cleaner to come clean my house coz I hate cleaning and so I just do bare minimum. But also, it’s not like it’s your sole task to do and he’s saving you from that - it’s a shared task so it’s kind of a shared gift? That said, if you’re someone who LOVES a clean house, can’t function when it’s unclean then yes it’s a thoughtful gift as it will bring you joy without you having to do the work yourself. Now, if he got you a weekly cleaner - ultimate gift!

If you’re paying $500 for a cleaner, you’re paying too much. Mine is $120 a fortnight for 3 hours of work. Also I would divorce the man who thought that was an acceptable gift to me in recognition of my effort as a mother to his children. Might as well pay for his car service for his birthday

35 years married and I do not understand this whole Mother’s Day Father’s Day thing. He’s not my father I’m not getting him a present. The children know when Father’s Day is it’s their responsibility if they want help to ask me for help. I have adult children now and every time they ask me to grab something for their father for Father’s Day my answer is no he’s not my father do it yourself. Likewise I have never expected a gift from the children’s father for Mother’s Day but I do expect him to help them if they want help around getting a gift for mum.
