The greatest illusion this world ever sold us is that freedom means having no limits. So we spend our lives chasing more. More attention. More beauty. More money. More approval. More experiences. More of everything. And somehow, despite having more than any generation before us, we have never seemed more restless. The more I tried to satisfy every desire, the more desires appeared. Every fulfilled craving made room for another. Every standard I reached was replaced by a higher one. This dunya never says, “Enough.” The world calls that freedom. But it’s captivity. The freest version of me has always been the one closest to Allah. Because when your heart is anchored in Him, the world slowly loses its ability to control you. You stop needing everyone’s validation. You stop worshipping your desires. You stop measuring your worth by things that were never meant to define you. You stop feeding the big industries. And that is when you become dangerous. You stop feeding the machine. The industries that profit from your insecurity lose their grip. The ones that convince you you’re never beautiful enough, never successful enough, never satisfied enough. You become less driven by endless consumption, less tempted by addictions that promise relief but leave you emptier than before. You begin to question what you’ve been taught to chase. Because when your heart is full, the world has fewer things to sell you. That is why a heart anchored in Allah is so difficult to manipulate. You cannot be manipulated by trends, bought by status, or broken by people’s opinions. You don’t need to prove your worth, because you already know where it comes from. The world loses its greatest weapon against you: convincing you that you are incomplete without what it is selling. The deepest freedom is not the freedom to do everything. It is the freedom from everything that controlles your soul.
