Last one for father days I promise😉 A little backstory about us during both postpartum journeys, my husband and I pretty much did everything ourselves. With our first baby, we didn’t want anyone too involved. Our family was around and helped us whenever we needed them, but no one was living with us or taking over the parenting. We wanted to figure it out together and do it ourselves. With our second, we made the big decision to move closer to our family. Even though no one was living with us then either, having family nearby made such a difference. Especially with two young kids, it was comforting to know that whenever we needed help whether it was an emergency or when my husband went back to work my sister, my mum, my dad, and his family were all close by. And I also want to make something very clear I’m not praising him for doing something extraordinary or giving him a medal for simply parenting his own children. Being a hands-on father and an equal parent is not “helping me” they are his children too, and this is our shared responsibility. But appreciation and acknowledgement are still important. Razu has always shown up for me and our children. He did absolutely everything alongside me during both postpartum journeys, and he continues to do so now. Not because he is doing me a favour, but because we are a team and this is our family. And I think it’s okay to appreciate your partner for the way they show up. We all have responsibilities in our families, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t acknowledge each other and say, I see you, and I appreciate you. That’s what this Father’s Day is about for me.
