They're right that feminism isn't about protecting women. That's the point. "Protection" was the old deal: stay in your lane, obey the man in charge, and he'll keep you safe — unless he's the one hurting you, and then you had no legal recourse. Marital rape was legal in parts of the US until 1993. Wives couldn't get credit cards without a husband's signature until 1974. That's what "protected" looked like. Feminism didn't take safety away from women; it took control of safety away from men. The domestic violence laws, rape shield laws, restraining orders, shelters, and harassment protections women actually rely on all came from feminist organizing. And the data's not subtle: women are safest in the countries where feminism went furthest, not the ones that kept them "protected." Freedom has risks. Being someone else's property had more.
