This government really doesn't want businesses doing well. Australia will end up like Argentina.

This will have a MAJOR impact on the recruitment industry. What is stopping a client from approaching my candidates directly. This will destroy the industry!

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to non compete. Wanna bet this is lead by politicians getting ahead of the public wanting to restrict politicians and gov execs moving straight from gov to industry. Does this legislation apply to pollies?

I see both benefits and drawbacks to this. Is there anything preventing large companies from strategically employee raiding essentially to shut down one of their smaller suppliers?! Let’s say Telstra had a contract with a 50 person IT company, and Telstra decides that they want to aggressively hire 2 thirds of those employees to “cut out the middleman”, and that effectively bankrupts the smaller IT company? 😅

lmao at people empathising that mass contracting companies might lose “1000 staff to company x”. I believe we’ve been out of buying/selling/owning people for a few hundred years here

The government and there lobby’s are screwing small business on purpose. Every policy / law is against small business there is no margin and high risk this why so many leaving the country only the big company’s that pay minimum or zero tax will survive

I’m so divided on this - on one hand it’s really tough for small businesses to compete with bigger businesses with bigger budgets, better benefits etc. On the other hand, employees should be able to move on and work where they like…. 😭

This is super relevant to the F&B industry where agency staff are prohibited from working anywhere they’ve worked under the agency even if only for one shift

So good to see, it really sucks that you can just force companies to not have good staff. So many scummy companies underpay their staff and then are happy that employees aren't able to look for better pay.

This is terrible. You spend the time to train staff, they learn your trade secrets and then they can leave and start a competing business using your knowledge! 😡

And won’t the lawyers just be rubbing their hands with glee!! More endless compliance costs for business . No one can keep up with the costs of all these changes. Payday super, super increased, mental health 100 page documents, increased gender pay rules, no marketing text messages, no merchant fees, car park congestion levies at $2.5k pa!!!!! In less than a year!! No one can keep up with all this!
