Religion is the best solution we have for humans earning for community, hope and tranquility though by no means it is perfect. Until, we provide a better alternative which provides the same things that the religions provide but without the dogma and god and faith, though Im unsure on how we are gonna provide a solution for the fear of death and what comes after death. And to answer your question: We will never know. I am sure it varies from individuals. Only that person knows what's truly happening. I don't think belief is necessarily voluntary or involuntary. It is kind of programmed and will mostly depend on the mindset and bias you have developed from your childhood. It is hard to shake off that bias but not impossible and yet no human can be 100% unbiased. Most people miss the fundamentals of religion, at least Islam (since that is the religion I have most knowledge on). The basic pillar is having faith (6 pillars of imaan) . That is the foundation. Does it ask you to verify the claims they are making as true before coming into the religion? No, It is asking you to believe and have faith first. Well this is not gonna be a problem for people born as Muslims, but how does someone from outside decide to have faith in it? Should they be conceived it is the truth to have faith? In my opinion not at all. All they need is a little something that is missing in their life, which Islam provides or that they "think" is a good thing from their upbringing. The bias. As you know, the majority of the converts decide to convert through watching their friends or partners ect. When they think that their friend is a good person (the goodness that is missing from their life) they immediately associate it with their religion which creates a good will on the religion unconsciously. They think that the religion of the friend would give them that goodness too. Now, all they need is a small trigger or a convincing factor which the religious people call such as "Scientific Miracles" "Numerical Miracles" ect.Do they believe in that religion solely cuz of those factors?Probably not but it acts as a coping factor that enforces the belief which already they want to believe unconsciously.

I feel like this is an amazing topic for discussion. Because as a born muslim i think i accepted islam my whole life and i chose to believe in it. But now growing up, i cannot force myself to believe that islam or even god is real anymore. I just think a lot of people chose to believe in it instead of thinking its actually true

i was born a muslim too but i never really challenged my beliefs. so now in my early twenties i’m studying all the aqeedahs. it’s kind of crazy how the islam that is projected in the media specifically is mostly with the athari aqeeda, and mostly the hanbali practices which illicit a kind of shock to people. islamic philosophy especially in its infancy was explored through the aristotelian lens. i highly recommend people to study islam from different lenses. study ibn arabi, the sufi mystic even if others tell you to stay away because his beliefs are “heretical” but they are so deeply spiritual and beautiful. or al ghazali, who’s life story and personal experiences shaped his views throughout his life and you can literally see the change through his works. islam doesn’t have to be the way people tell you it is. even ibn taymiyah who is regarded as the “sheikh of islam” by atharis today is undeniably an incredible mind. i’m still new so don’t quote me on anything. but you’ll never lose anything by understanding islam and its change in history through the influential scholars of the past. jazakum allah khair. i offer my sincerest prayers to you all, even if you think it’ll do nothing.
