They lost focus. The lack of innovation and didn't prioritise sports (mainly running, which are their origins) and athletes. Also, going DTC was rather short-sighted, as it only worked during COVID, they needed retailer relationships to keep the brand going strong. Also, too much reliance on their brand strength and nostalgia over quality control and creating new, forward-thinking products.

Nike gives too much money to sport-stars and celebrities, too little money to the people actually making their shoes and clothing. And charge too much for the products to their customers.

The rise of right wing conservatism killed Nike IMO. Sneaker culture was/is rooted in Black influence and style icons, now people (including myself) are looking for “dad shoes”

Nike haven’t released anything of interest in years. Can’t rely on retros forever, 100 colourways of the same 30+ year old shoes just isn’t exciting.

Honestly I imagine consultants are typically the cause of more harm than anything. Never seen a project from a consultant actual make things better. Problem is they always focus on increasing profits, not realising that's a cause of achieving a goal not the goal itself

They tried to change a necessity into a luxury, catered to shoe resellers, jacked the prices up to genuinely ridiculous levels (nike air max 95 ultra originally £125 in 2019 now £175) and just like…hoped everyone would be fine with it. They also screwed up their entire internship programme (I was on it) a had a gold tick (basically I passed every exam on trainer technology and had bonkers sales figures and it afforded me lots of benefits) then they took it away and everyone moved to footlocker/footasylum/schuh etc

They started chasing online trends, which last for ten minutes, and ignored an incredibly loyal consumer base. Many of us have been wearing Nike for decades. And they did that in the hope the turnover would be quicker and people would buy more frequently. And very quickly the shoes became really ugly and way too expensive. You can chase that audience, but you also having to keep making what the customer base that has been keeping the lights on for years wants.
