@wallstreetjournal: An Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport and crashed into nearby vehicles, killing at least five people and injuring five more. The plane swiped several vehicles and trapped people inside who had to be extricated, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Raied “Ray” Jadallah said at a news briefing Sunday afternoon. Of the five injured, three were in critical condition, authorities said. The airport was put into a ground stop at approximately 2 p.m. local time, with all runways and taxiways closed. Flights were allowed to resume taking off at Miami and departing for the airport later in the afternoon, with heavy delays. “We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened,” Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokeswoman, said on X. Amazon won't be at fault for this reason why they contract a lot of airlines to fly their products. They don't have an airline operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Just like when you see Amazon trailers in a wreck being pulled by a third party carrier. Amazon isn't responsible.

Approach and landing a jet aircraft is an exercise in energy management. The heavier the aircraft the bigger deal this becomes. It boils down to pilot training, aptitude, experience, and performance. Any of those 4 factors lacking is a recipe for disaster. Look, a pilot with a blemish free record and excellent qualifications in the 4 areas above is not going to be selling his/her services for 1/2 pay at a sub contractor (21 Air) when they could easily get paid double at a legacy (Delta, American, United, Alaska/Hawaiian, etc). Regardless of what job you are hiring for, you get what you pay for.
