@worldeconomicforum: It was the forgotten idea of a Nobel-winning scientist. Now, Emilie Bodoin is turning it into reality. The Founder and CEO of Pure Lithium has revived the ‘lithium metal battery’ – an alternative to the lithium-ion batteries we know from electric vehicles, and a breakthrough that could make batteries lighter, safer and more efficient – all while reducing dependence on critical mineral supply chains. If successful, the technology could also help more countries manufacture batteries closer to home, strengthening energy security and supporting the transition to cleaner energy. Pure Lithium is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, part of a community of start-ups which are developing cutting-edge technologies with the potential to improve the world. Nice but CATL has already invented Sodium-ion batteries that are WAY more sustainable than anything related to lithium

You don’t know nothing :
Do these people want or need electricity? Once they get that it destroys them turns them into western countries. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with off grid

Two main problems: Dendrites and the extreme reactivity of pure lithium metal. Everyone in the industry knows why lithium battery design has evolved into what we have today. This seems like a repeat of Theranos.

I think we need to invest in sodium ion batteries.

I mean it’s cool and all but still dealing with “lithium” batteries which are highly flammable if exposed to air and people use their bikes until they break and then want to take them apart and fix them themselves. I think we need to find a different approach for batteries especially for electric vehicles because I’ve seen electric cars on fire and it’s horrific

Lithium is neither sustainable nor Earth friendly and comes with huge environmental justice impacts. Come on folks, this is just another energy trap, not an energy justice solution. We can do better!

lithium mining is already at capacity until new mining operations come online, this is like a 5-10 year goal to make commercial available

If she had a battery with double the capacity and half the weight that cost less and used local materials it would be worth a trillion dollars. And if she worried about people without electricity she'd license the tech for cheap or free. She doesnt have it.

Good on you. Petroleum giants tried and succeeded in some extent to stop or slowdown the growth of other energy sources. But China because of their dependency on the world market that was in contrast with their goal of independence from outside sources played a crucial role in showing the world how serious and effective other sources of energies are.
