The software is maturing. My need is about a year out. I am going to want as much as possible of the AI stack to be local but will also need remote at times. There is a place for both. I am looking forward to the Apple M7 Ultra chip set — late 2027 to 2028. Apple’s M series chips have had a strong focus on AI from the beginning. With the M7 they are making a huge leap and it will be their second 2nm chip set. I have heard that Apple will be offering a MacStudio Pro that can take up to four M7 Ultra boards and extra SSD slots creating a mini-rack with each of the M7U having as much as 2TB of unified memory. Then those, like the current MacMini and MacStudio, can be chained together to create local AI servers. This does not replace data centers, those can still be called for more resources, but local data can then stay local and secure. If Apple creates it as a net server you will then have access via your phone and laptop from anywhere in the world to your personal, or business, AI stack. This puts Apple in competition with NVIDIA for the lower level servers. NVIDIA will probably rule the medium to large data centers.
