@emis.asia: Medical honey is real medicine. It is also not the jar in your kitchen, and not for every wound. Raw honey can carry botulism spores, and a wound bed is low in oxygen, which is exactly where those spores can germinate. Medical grade honey is filtered and sterilised with gamma radiation at 25 kGy, which kills the spores without destroying the enzyme that does the work. In the jar the honey is dormant. Wound fluid dilutes it and switches glucose oxidase on, releasing hydrogen peroxide slowly and continuously. It also draws fluid out and holds the surface acidic, which helps lift dead tissue away. Manuka works differently, through methylglyoxal, with no peroxide needed. Other honeys reach comparable potency in the lab by the peroxide route. The grade matters more than the flower. A Cochrane review of 19 trials and 2,554 people found partial thickness burns healed about 4 to 5 days sooner, and infected surgical wounds did better than antiseptic and gauze. But leg ulcers under compression gained nothing. It is not a dressing for every wound. Brief stinging is common. Ask about bee allergy first, and review spreading redness.
