@connielonadier: I had bread pudding at a little place in New Orleans years ago, and I've been chasing that exact same taste at home ever since, this is finally the recipe that got me there. Butter a 9x13 dish and tear a loaf of stale French bread into chunks. Whisk together 1 quart whole milk with 3 eggs, 1 1/2 cups sugar, and 2 Tbsp vanilla, then pour that mixture over the bread. Scatter 1 cup raisins across the top, dot with 3 Tbsp butter, press everything down gently, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Bake at 350 for 45 to 50 minutes, until golden. For the sauce, melt 1/2 cup butter with 1 cup sugar. Off the heat, temper a beaten egg into the hot mixture, then whisk it back in fully. Stir in 3 Tbsp apple juice and 1 tsp vanilla. Pour the sauce warm over the pudding right before serving. Stale bread is really the whole trick here, it soaks up all that custard without turning mushy. That first bite took me straight back to Bourbon Street. Shared

Sounds fabulous… I am going to try this. It’s been ages since I’ve had any. No one in my family likes it, is biggest reason. Wonder if any way to freeze this into portions? Also it’s been so long since having any, I thought there was some cinnamon in it….but like I said it’s been a long time.

Maybe that’s what it’s called in the US, in the UK we call that bread and butter pudding. Bread pudding to us is more of a cake form, more solid and is made with mixed spices
