visited korea (my first and dream country) in april this yr and the restaus we went werent that good and the average meal costed 20k-30k won and served half this tray 😭😭😭 im planning to go back next yr how do i know where to eat the local and authentic restaus

before Covid in Busan in gamcheon village there were still local food spots and I saw locals eating and smoking there and chilling playing cards. And I recently went back in 2025 and I was SHOOK that they were ALL GONE!! It’s only retail stores now and a lot of tourist souvenir

Ironically, Korea became popular and trendy since few years ago but in my opinion it’s less interesting to visit now (it changed, more westernised and standardised as well). Back then, it wasn’t a touristic destination at all (rare to see foreigners) but people were happier, more enthusiastic, optimistic about future, traditional mentality was more present. I would say the 2000’s was the perfect balance, « officially » still poor but in reality it was already modern and comfortable enough. Many nostalgic stuff disappeared.
