@sincerely.yours853: For those who have journeyed a long way with CPTSD and are now experiencing improvement in coping and surviving, could you share one or two things that helped you overcome certain obstacles or thinking patterns? For me, my faith and my daughter have been pillars. My baby girl, innocent of my past, deserves a mom who can find balance to ensure she has a good childhood—a childhood far better than my painful one. Faith has offered me encouragement and motivation, though it wasn't an easy path. I once walked away completely, but ultimately, I found my way back, and through that struggle, it continues to help. #cptsd #cptsdawareness #fyp

Sincerely yours

Through therapy! Finally understanding that the shame and guilt that was put on me from my abusers as a child was not mine to carry! I let it go! Understood none of it was my fault. I never understood what being “free” meant until I let that go! The tricky part was realizing I lost myself protecting everyone so I had no idea who I was w/o it! Now I’m becoming a new person!

I made mini posters of what my therapist says in sessions to keep at work. It helps for those days when my brain is tired to fight.

Affirmation! My very first one was “thoughts aren’t facts”! I like to hang them in my bathroom so I can see them when I’m getting ready… still hanging to this day!! sometimes it’s the only one there. also telling yourself “I’m going to(insert task here…brush my teeth, go to work…clean blah blah blah)” before doing helps teach yourself to trust your self.

My entire life my internal monologue has been different pieces, like separate people. When a voice is saying something awful and is stuck on repeat, I keep saying I’m hurting myself. This is me attacking me. It helps to stop the moment.

Having a psychologist that is strictly trauma based focused, was a game changer for me. I’ve had many doctors over the years, but this one Dr has really bent over backwards to help me. I’m removing the chains that bind me, one link at a time.

"Feeling Great or the older Feeling Good" by Dr. Burns...you have to address the cognitive distortions....pattern interruption to create new neural pathways. kundalini yoga to teach your nervous system you are safe now.

ok! just discovered this: reprocessing through PATTERN MISMATCH. so I get in the same pattern I always do, and my brain says "this only ever goes one way", and so it makes that happen. but, if I get in a pattern, and something different happens, suddenly instead of only one bad option, there is a new option labeled "?". idk if it's better, but it's something else, and even one or two instances of literally ANYTHING other than the usual pattern outcome makes room in your brain for change. I was trapped in being unable to even vocalize my needs or frustrations because my system read that as threatening the social weather and therefore my safety. one day, I got super triggered, told my husband some.big feelings that I couldn't shut down, and he... listened? like, he was mad, yeah, but I managed to stay in the space of "I'm mad too, so what are WE gonna do about that?" and did not comfort his upset. I was shaking the whole time. then he actually took in (some of) what I'd said and we talked about what could fix it, and I was like.... dumbfounded. I don't have software for this. what...does this mean? and since then, I've been more and more able to choose "?" instead of "awful pattern" and things are improving faster than I've ever experienced

It may sound cheesy, but learning to grant myself grace, that rewiring, and healing isn't a linear progression.
