Weaving Heritage into Living Infrastructure This project repositions industrial heritage not as a static relic but as an active spatial system capable of reintegrating production, memory, and everyday life. Set within the abandoned Shuiteng Silk Factory in Foshan, the proposal treats the site as a once-complete social ecosystem where labour, dwelling, education, and family life were interwoven through industrial processes. Rather than preserving the factory as an object of nostalgia, the intervention reactivates it as a distributed framework of collective production. Spatial organisation emerges from the logic of weaving itself; bamboo craft and silk processing are translated into architectural systems that structure circulation, thresholds, and communal space. The project begins at the scale of daily life: communal kitchens and food markets operate as open civic interfaces rooted in Lingnan culture. From this base, the system expands into workshops, production fields, and shared living environments, forming a continuous gradient between making and inhabiting. Material memory is embedded as an active agent. Recycled silk becomes a carrier of industrial history, while bamboo construction techniques are reinterpreted as spatial armatures, allowing cultural knowledge to operate simultaneously as structure and narrative.
