@alanonai: You built the app. It works. You showed it to four people in your industry and every single one of them said it was a great idea. And then nothing happened. Here's the thing nobody tells you. "Great idea" is not a signal. It's a social response. When someone shows you a thing they clearly worked hard on, the polite move is to say something nice, and almost everyone takes the polite move. So how do you actually find out? Watch the first thirty seconds when you describe your app to someone. If they interrupt you, if they finish your sentence, if they say "oh, we do that in a spreadsheet and it's a nightmare," you found someone who already knows they have this problem. You're not introducing anything. You're showing up to a fight they were already having. But if you're the one explaining, if you have to walk them through why this is a problem before you can show them the solution, you're in trouble. You're installing the problem in their head first. That's a long, expensive road. Here's the test that actually works. Go find out what people are doing about this right now. Nobody with a real problem is doing nothing about it. There's a spreadsheet with eleven tabs. A Sunday night ritual. An assistant whose whole job is this. A guy named Steve who just remembers. That workaround is your evidence. No workaround, no recognized problem. So go find eight people this week and ask what they do today. Don't mention your app. The second they know you built something, you stop getting information and start getting encouragement. The article is called Does Anyone Else Know They Have This Problem? This is a huge conversation but at the end of the day it’s the same in any industry. Baking a cake is easy, making a killer latte is easy. Selling that cake is hard. Getting people in your coffee shop is hard. I truly believe it’s harder to sell it, than building it now.
