@khanjicyber: Even opting out didn't stop it collecting. The researchers tested that. With every agreement declined, the TV still scanned their entire home network and logged every phone, watch and PC on it, still catalogued the wifi networks next door, and still checked in with LG's ad servers, about six gigabytes of traffic a month on a TV that had agreed to nothing. Opting out after you've accepted is worse, because the TV sends one last snapshot of everything it collected to LG's ad company on the way out, and a six year old LG in Wendell's office that never accepted a single term still had an advertising ID pushed onto it by a firmware update. The only thing declining actually stopped was the content fingerprinting. The microphones worked for the researchers either way.
