ANOTHER REPORTED ARREST IN AUCHI’S CAMPUS 2: CALLS FOR FAIRNESS AND TRANSPARENCY Reports indicate that another arrest has been made in the Campus 2 area of Auchi, Edo State, involving a woman allegedly linked to illicit substance-related activities. Details of the arrest and the substance reportedly involved have not yet been independently verified. We commend the Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government, Hon. Romeo, for efforts to address concerns about illicit drugs and related activities in our communities. HOWEVER, CONCERNS ABOUT POSSIBLE SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT MUST BE ADDRESSED. Allegations have emerged that some individuals associated with the local task force may be collecting money from people suspected of involvement in illicit activities. There are also concerns that enforcement may not be applied equally to everyone. These allegations remain unverified and should not be treated as established facts. Nevertheless, they deserve a fair, impartial and transparent investigation. We respectfully call on the Etsako West Local Government Chairman to: - Investigate the allegations of possible extortion or unofficial payments. - Ensure that all arrests and enforcement operations comply with the law. - Take appropriate disciplinary or legal action if wrongdoing is established. - Ensure that no individual is protected from enforcement or unfairly targeted. The fight against illicit drugs must not become an avenue for intimidation, extortion or selective justice. NO ONE SHOULD BE ABOVE THE LAW, AND NO ONE SHOULD BE UNFAIRLY TARGETED.
