When a person becomes surrounded by difficulties and suffers losses so painful that they can sometimes make a person sorrowful for the rest of their life—such as the death of someone close and dear. Although it happens only once, the grief and mourning that follow can continue throughout a person’s life. The spiritual fervour (soz) which the Promised Messiah, peace be upon him, has mentioned as something that should be present in prayer is granted to a person on such occasions. When worldly difficulties surround a person, a natural fervour arises in the heart. Make use of this fervour and pray. Then, when that prayer is accepted, a fervour of love for Allah will also develop within the heart. These are subtle connections, but they are completely real. There is not the slightest doubt that human nature works in this way: first, if a person turns their attention towards it, the fervour within the heart is transformed into prayer. If that prayer is accepted, then love for Allah develops within the person. That love then continues to grow until the fervour of love surpasses every fervour of longing for worldly things. This is the state which the Promised Messiah, peace be upon him, describes in these words: «“When one reaches such a state as is akin to the state of death, then it is called Salat.”» - @imam.in.italia
