We all know Kemyans are too learned to sell tea and mandazi on the streets, but still, those jobs must remain exclusively Kenyan, even if we refuse to do them. This is precisely how the rhetoric that fuels xenophobia begins, and we have seen where such thinking can lead. And what makes this even more bizarre is that the 1999 EAC Treaty talks about free movement, the right of establishment and economic integration. Yet here we are, hearing rhetoric that makes our East African “brothers” sound like unwanted trespassers. So you can cross the border as an East African brother, but when you start selling kahawa, clothes or chapati you become a threat to national economic sovereignty? At this point, the EAC isn't a Common Market. It's a bery big common misunderstanding. #gabiromtunecessary
