🇬🇧 Things I did to land my first UK job with ZERO UK work experience I didn’t wait until I had “UK experience” to start looking like a UK candidate. 1️⃣ I translated my overseas experience. I stopped thinking “they won’t count my experience because it’s from abroad.” I focused on the skills, responsibilities and results that transferred to the UK role. 2️⃣ I studied UK job descriptions like an exam. I looked at the language employers were actually using and made sure my CV demonstrated those competencies. 3️⃣ I stopped applying for everything. I chose specific roles where my qualifications and previous experience made sense. 4️⃣ I made my CV about the employer. Not just “here’s everything I’ve ever done.” I made it obvious why my experience was relevant to this particular job. 5️⃣ I researched the organisation before interviewing. I learned their priorities, values, services and the problems the role was there to solve. 6️⃣ I prepared examples for competency questions. I didn’t rely on “I’ll just be myself in the interview.” 😂 I prepared real examples showing what I’d done and the results. 7️⃣ I used my UK education strategically. My MSc wasn’t just a qualification. It gave me UK academic experience, projects, research and examples I could discuss. 8️⃣ I networked. I started learning how people actually entered the sectors and organisations I wanted to work in. 9️⃣ I treated rejection as information. If something didn’t work, I changed the CV, targeting or interview approach rather than simply sending another 50 applications. 🔟 I stopped using “ZERO UK EXPERIENCE” as an excuse. Because the truth is: You might have zero UK work experience. But you don’t necessarily have zero relevant experience. Your job is to make the employer understand the connection. 🇬🇧 You don’t need to start your UK career from zero. You need to learn how to position what you’ve already built.
