Beautiful lagoon or good house reef? What should you look for when choosing a Maldives island? 🤿 This is one of the biggest things we look at when recommending a resort. Because in the Maldives, the island with the most beautiful turquoise lagoon isn’t necessarily the one with the best house reef. So what should you actually compare? 👇 1️⃣ What matters more to you: the view or what’s underwater? If you dream of swimming in a huge, crystal-clear turquoise lagoon, prioritise the island itself and the quality of its beach and lagoon. If you’re planning to spend hours snorkelling, the house reef should be much higher on your list. 2️⃣ Look at the lagoon AND the reef separately Don’t assume that an incredible lagoon means incredible snorkelling. 3️⃣ Check how accessible the house reef is Some reefs start just metres from the beach, while others are further out or require a boat trip. If you plan to snorkel several times a day, this makes a huge difference. 4️⃣ Don’t judge either one from a drone shot Aerial photos are great but they tell you very little about what’s underneath the water. Ask us for our underwater videos of the actual house reef before booking. 5️⃣ Remember that both can change Currents, tides and seasons can affect water clarity, marine life and even how much seaweed is in a lagoon. A beautiful lagoon can look very different at different times of year, and some resorts need to regularly manage and clean certain areas. 6️⃣ Price doesn’t tell you which one is better We’ve snorkelled $800/night house reefs that were far better than resorts charging four times more. The same applies to lagoons, you shouldn’t assume the most expensive resort automatically has the most beautiful island. We’ve visited 42 resorts and snorkelled in all of them, so if you tell us what matters most to you, we’ll recommend the islands that actually match what you’re looking for. 📧 Contact us for more information and a save this before choosing your Maldives resort. ✈️ Follow us for the world’s most beautiful hotels and destinations ✨ #Maldives #MaldivesSnorkelling #HouseReef #MaldivesTravel #MaldivesGuide
