@evelynmiller48: I used to have such a weird & honestly harsh mindset when it came to ANY type of “adaptive” tool when it was something that > I < may use. When it came to other people, I was the biggest supporter. I think adaptive tools are so so important and NOTHING to be ashamed of… except apparently when it came to myself. I struggled with this from the start once I finally heard the words “Multiple Sclerosis” as my diagnosis. I guess most of it came from me not wanting to feel incapable of doing something. I didn’t want people to think I wasn’t enough. That I was weak. That I was “too much” But then I eventually changed my mindset whenever my husband got me some hiking poles to use whenever I went walking with him while he disc golf. I learned that my ego was the thing stopping me. No one else cared! If anything I’ve had people love hearing about them. My husband is an OT so adaptive tools and things are something he’s very familiar with so he’s always been a huge supporter of “if it helps you live easier, then get it.” Needing things to help you in your day to day life is NEVER something to be ashamed of. My glasses that I wear everyday are technically an adaptive tool, I use them to see better. So why have that judgement with anything else. . With all of this, there are so many different tools and modalities that people aren’t aware of and I’d love to hear some of everyone’s favorites! #multiplesclerosis #msawareness #chronicillness #adaptive #ms
I’ve got a Cionic Neural Sleeve that covers my right leg and stimulates the 4 major muscle groups of the leg. He helps me lift my leg and helps with my foot drop. I can hardly walk without it and it helps with my fatigue. 🧡
