@theinclusivefaith: Yes, some translations of Leviticus call sex between men an “abomination.” But that English word carries assumptions the original Hebrew does not. The word toevah describes something considered taboo or ritually unacceptable within a particular religious and cultural system. Leviticus also regulates food, clothing, sacrifices, agriculture, bodily fluids, and countless other aspects of ancient Israelite life. Christians have never treated that entire legal system as a timeless rulebook. And this passage does not address sexual orientation or a loving, mutual same-sex marriage as we understand those things today. Taking the Bible seriously means taking its history, language, and context seriously too. I’m a gay pastor. Ask me anything. #AskAGayPastor #Leviticus #GayChristian #LGBTQChristian #InclusiveFaith
