her mother was right. they should have just let her go when she ran off. this is over petty theft. a lot of it was food, too. they had her name. the car info and cctv footage. they could've tracked down her later. they had all the information and evidence they needed to pursue her later on in court. yet they chose to do a chase knowing she had 2 young ones in the car. There's such a thing as assessment of risk vs gain when you're a police officer. and that wasn't worth the risk. those kids could've gotten severely hurt and the police department would be partially responsible. That's literally the protocol when dealing with petty theft. There was never any imminent danger to her walking out with unpaid goods.
