once had a director at a business school i admired assume i came from money (i do not lol) based on a fully thrifted outfit at 25! did not buy for quality/name at the time like i am starting to now, but its amazing how far you can go based on learning cuts, proportions, and unofficial dress codes for places you’ll be!

Yes! I buy most of my work clothes at Gap and Abercrombie during sales. Sometimes even Costco. I’d rather spend my money traveling or on classes/learning/experiences

I had a beautiful work wardrobe in my early 20’s that I thrifted, mostly designer, beautiful Jil Sander trousers, etc. then my body changed and I had to rethrift it of course for less $$$ 😭. I’m glad I thrifted it to begin with so it was affordable but I’m so sad that all that effort went away with body changes. I should have just gone to Uniqlo

As a 21 year old, there is definitely a feeling of needing to get these expensive pieces bc I’ll “have them forever” or they’re “investments” and everyone has them. I think the real issue is my generation wants a life like their Pinterest board, but the people in those pics are in their 30s and can afford it

100%! I got all my clothes at Tjmax, Nordstrom rack, and the real real in my 20s. Hot take: shopping like that makes you a way better shopper for when you can afford higher end items because you learn to pay attention to how clothes are actually made/fabric/etc.

Hot take, I am 41 have been shopping at Ross and Nordstrom Rack since I started my career at 21. I choose quality pieces and sprinkle in trendy stuff. I have always gotten tons of compliments on my clothes. I just can’t bring myself to spend crazy money on clothes

Agreed. I knew I couldn’t afford my fav brand when I was in my 20s. I built my wardrobe via thrift stores (when you could still find quality) and eBay. Now that I’m pushing 50, I can buy that same brand full price and I happily do if I find something that I want and don’t want to wait for a sale.

absolutely! thrift shops are the way to go, you can find great timeless pieces for cheap. No need to spend bank when you should be focusing in saving and investing!
