limiting people's access to you doesn't automatically make them give you less hate. If you reciprocated what they've shown you, it makes it harder for them to treat you bad. (based on experience and I actually hate that I think like this)

Limiting someone’s access to you after they’ve hurt you isn’t hatred, and it isn’t revenge. You don’t have to return the same energy just bc someone gave it to you. Self-respect can simply mean knowing when to step back and set a boundary.
