@missy23232: Career and interview tips from a talent executive who spent 20+ years on the other side of the table. She turned down one start date request and it cost her the job offer entirely. After 20+ years making talent and people decisions at the executive level, I've seen the same mistakes cost great candidates great opportunities. These videos exist so you don't have to learn the hard way. #careertips #careeradvice #jobmarket #workplacetips #jobsearchtips
Red flag if the future employer can’t be flexible for a pre planned and predisclosed trip.

Damn that. People have lives&plans that occur before job offers.Life is too short. I turned down offers if planned events for my kids etc could not be accommodated. People cancel plans&these same companies will lay them off 6 months later. Yeah,no

I lost an opportunity because they wanted me to give a 2-3 day notice to my current employer and I didn’t want to because I have been here 5 yrs and they are a large employer where I live.

Just got a contract job via a recruiter! They had no problem with my pre planned vacay in Nov. but I made sure I was reallyyyyy adaptable to their start date. I was unemployed for 13 months. The recruiting company was fine with the trip and made it seem like no big deal.

Lot of variables to unpack. Always be upfront about planned time off during the interview process, especially in this market.

When companies take their time interviewing and the process lasts 3-4 months, a few weeks isn’t going to break the bank on start dates. Seems ridiculous to me.

Nope good companies WHEN THEY WANT YOU WILL WORK WITH YOU. I’ve had similar experience and the company quickly stated that’s fine in this job market. They didn’t want the other girl that much simple. I think if they don’t work with you that manager is a red flag.

I make my plans change for a job offer. I’m not dumb. l realize how business works and they don’t wait for anyone.

I’m a Lead/Principal Cybersecurity Engineer who specialize in vuln mgmt and build these programs for companies, I just started my journey of looking around and it’s deff a rough market right now. I think everyone has to have some sort of flexibility

I signed the offer letter and completely forgot my partner had surgery on the same day as the start date. Is it okay to push the start date by 1 day?

I’m so glad I saw this cause I have an interview tomorrow and I’m hoping I get an offer but yeah I guess if they want me to start right away I will have to choose this new opportunity even though the company I’m currently with I’ve been with them for 13 years but this opportunity is too good to pass up.

Sounds like those family’s don’t need to work too hard if they can be selfish enough to choose a vacation over starting a new job 😂

assuming this wasn’t asking for an unreasonable start date, it feels like a bullet dodged from these companies. Knowing the candidate is unemployed is irrelevant, they still have lives
