I honestly think they look good. It adds character. Nothing has to be magazine perfect. I also agree add the hardware and make them pop with that. Dont beat yourself up, you did an excellent job.

I guess it depends on the type of stain you used. I bought one that was super easy to apply and to clean had no odor and one small can went a really long way… the brand is Varathane the color I used is called Kona

biggest mistake most diy make is this same thing. you have to sand back down to complete bare wood. water pop the grain so it takes the stain fully. you are staining over more than likely a conversion varnish or spray lacquer stain. trying to put oil or water based stain over the top without proper prep will fail each and every time. professionals charge a lot for refinishing work because A) they have the knowledge and experience and B) they have all the proper tools and techniques to accomplish the correct end results. maple is by far the trickiest to work with. those definitely are not pine. they are 100% maple

Gel stain is very hard to work with. Get a couple giant things of acetone at the hardware store and microfiber clothes and keep wiping those cabinets with it, the stain will melt right off.

Tbh. I’ve seen worse. I’d clean up those cabinets and use a paint made for cabinets though for a smoother look

It looks great to me. But if you’re looking for a more consistent look do the following. If it’s bare wood, mix 30% paint + 70% water, apply using a cotton rag and remove excess immediately. Then apply stain, you’ll get a more uniform finish.

We just remodeled our kitchen don’t get me wrong they are beautiful but it was expensive and the material nowadays is very cheap . Your cabinets look really good. Just take your time and refinish them
