I find this fascinating. While watching artists creat amazing work of art in current time, I have never seen anyone explain that they are putting hidden meaning in their paintings. They just paint for the love of art. Back in the day it seems artists were constantly trying to teach the viewers something like it's high-school

The San Diego Museum of Art has a Dutch painters exhibit and I took a pic of one that’s very similar to this. No butterfly but there are a couple bugs.

I love this, in no small part because i can use it to smack down people who attack contemporary art by saying, “Why can’t it be like Renaissance art, where it was enough to just make something pretty?!” Excellent!
