@knowitallnicole: 17 months ago when my husband died, I moved out of our home. I was in a panic and had to decide what was worth keeping. I couldn’t part from the majority of Matt’s items so I’ve been holding onto them thinking I would have more clarity as my grief lightened. 17 months later and this is where I’m at. #grief #widow
It will be a year on the 24th of this month that my husband died in our kitchen 💔 I relive that morning every morning.

My wife of 29 yrs passed during covid. I still have all of her clothes, every piece of jewelry, I sleep on her side of the bed using her pillow sprayed with her Gloria Vanderbilt perfume. I miss her every day, we were supposed to grow old together. Emma Lou.

We lived on my grandma’s property so our home is still untouched 3 years later… his dirty coffee mug is literally on the counter still. I’ve been in there twice for less than a minute to grab things I needed but otherwise, it’s just a time capsule I’ll never be ready to pack up 💔

took me 3 years before I donated most of Vanessas clothing to a woman's shelter. I still have some of her dresses from Prom and homecoming in hopes that my daughter will repurpose them.

Thank you so much for posting this. I can’t get rid of his stuff because it’s not just his, it’s OURS and it represents US. So I do what you do - I put things “away” but still accessible. It’s been 4.5 years. Someday I have to let it go, and I feel closer to being able to do that sometimes…but not today. Anyway, thank you.

I hate the fucking storage unit. I hate that Richard died so unexpectedly.! the storage unit that I thought I’d get rid of a month after moving into an apartment not a home…. The storage unit that I will never get rid of never get a smaller one because I as well and I’m not willing to get rid of his stuff.

You do what you need to do. I lost my son, he was 19. His room looks exactly the same as it did when he died, it will be 6 years this December.

Hugs and loves. For me I just didn’t want Bob’s stuff around because I was just so mad at him for leaving me I didn’t want to look at his shit. After all I took a sledgehammer to one of trucks, yes I have anger issues with him dying 🤭. I think his clothes were gone within a week. I gave all his guns to our son as I didn’t trust me with them being in the house with me. I did keep sentimental items and I kept the shirt he wore the morning we went to the hospital and his hats because they still smell like him. Everyone does what they have to do is for them. Are there some things I wish I didn’t get rid of sure but keeping those things don’t bring Bob back. Love you Nicole.

I’m in the midst of this situation as well! DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU FEEL YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL IT! There’s no date or schedule you need to follow!💕

The only people you need to worry about pleasing are you and your son. I’m sorry that you both have to go through these stages

It's been 18 months since my husband died. His stuff is still where he left it. I did manage to donate his jeans. Going through them was sooo hard. I kept 2 pairs. My neighbor took them to Goodwill. His stuff still brings me comfort. So I'll take care of this later. In my time and no one else's. You are very brave!

Felt this, I still have my dad’s stuff from 2013. I don’t think I’d ever have the guts to part with it if we’re being completely honest. Sending love to you and your family!

I was lucky. It was easy for me to give away my wife’s stuff. It felt freeing to send her things to charity. I’m not sure why I felt the way I did while others (most?) cannot think about parting with their partner’s stuff. I’m sure it was a defensive move to keep myself sane.
