I don’t care about keeping back neat for aesthetic purposes, but I tried to keep it as neat as possible because I feel like it makes it easier to stitch. I feel like if there’s too many pieces of thread going over the same area then it makes it a little bit more difficult to stitch.

Yes I was taught to keep the back clean. My mom had a cross stitch store and I learned from all the ladies :)
