@gracebolandfg: 💬 “But you’re in Government!” I hear this one a LOT… And I get why people ask it. If your TD is a member of a Government party, surely they can just tell the Government to fix things, right? 🤷‍♀️ Well… it’s a little more complicated than that. 🏛️ Being a Government backbench TD is very different from being a Minister. I don’t run a Government Department and I can’t simply instruct the NTA, HSE or any other State body to do something. But that doesn’t mean I can’t make a difference. 💪 My job is to represent the people who elected me, raising your concerns, asking the questions, challenging decisions, meeting Ministers and Government Departments, and pushing for changes in funding and policy. 🤝 And being a Government TD gives me a direct opportunity to raise those issues with Ministers and within my parliamentary party. 📣 Sometimes that also means challenging decisions made by Government Departments or State agencies, even when my own party is in Government. 🤔 So if you see me criticising something, it doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten that Fine Gael is in Government. 💪 It means I’m doing my job 👉 Representing you.
👉 Asking questions.
👉 Challenging decisions.
👉 And pushing Government to do better. That’s what being your TD is about. 🇮🇪💙
