if it's an old house, the upstairs might not be original to the house as a living space so when they turned it into actual living space instead of attic, they might've just not insulated it

We moved into an old farm house when I was a teen. Zero insulation anywhere. My dad rented an insulation blower and used a hole saw and cut a hole between every stud and blew (not fiberglass) insulation into the wall. It was a PITA but it made a huge difference. Not as effective as the fiberglass but miles better than nothing.

We've lived in our house for 12 years now and I've never been in the attic and we have no overhead lights in our front room and so I was discussing w my husband about installing one w a fan, now that we officially own the house (as of 5-29-26) and he decided to inform me that the attic isn't insulated 😳 like, isn't that the one place you'd want to be insulted and why didn't you tell me this years ago, I'd have had the old landlord do something about it, now it's our problem 😭
