i speak the gulf dialect and can only understand najdi, hejazi and maybe some egyptian and leventine and a bit of iraqi and yemeni but the rest is impossible to understand

Actually we do have a clue of what our neighbours saying im Palestinian i understand everyone perfectly except sometimes i find it hard to understand Moroccans Algerians Tunisians and Iraqis But i still understand 60%~80% of what they say

Its just a different dialect of arabic mixed with the old local language :) and the maghreb countries can understand the rest but not the opposite bcz of the middle eastern influence like the consumed contents there as tv shows, songs and cartoons

the "we don't understand eachother" thing is a lie, we could speak MSA which is how we write and speak in more formal contexts, but we usually just mix our dialects when speaking and understand eachother
